Life Coaching with John Thomas of Ultimate Hoops

Former Basketball Star Gives Back
with an Academic Emphasis

Our FAB 6th graders, along with Coachv Yusuf, Coach Marcus,
Coach Darren and Director Coach Luc, had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with John G. Thomas, the Minneapolis native who graduated from Roosevelt High School and signed his letter of intent to the University of Minnesota in 1993.

During the life-coaching session, Mr. Thomas talked about the importance of being a well-disciplined basketball player but also staying ahead of your education. From 1993-1997, while a student at the University of Minnesota, he studied Speech Communications and Media Studies.

Dominating on and off the court was a priority for Mr. Thomas, and this was further proven his senior year in college when he led the Gophers to the Final Four Championship in March 1997Mr. Thomas has had a great basketball career. In 1997 he was drafted into the NBA in the first-round by the New York Knicks. John has had the pleasure of dazzling his fans in many places and even back home when he played with the Minnesota Timerberwolves in 2004-2005.

It's only been three years since John has been back at home after playing overseas, most recently with Jeonju KCC Egis in South Korea. Using the education he received at the University of Minnesota, plus his prestigeous basketball career, he is now the National Manager of Training of Ultimate Hoopswww.uhlife.com.

John allowed the boys ask questions regarding the glamourous life of basketball, and he took the time to help them understand how none of it would have been possible without his education. This life-coach session was the incentive the players needed for the second half of the winter basketball season.

Thanks, John, for stopping by and dropping knowledge!
